You can stop forlornly looking at Discogs, Amazon or Ebay and the prices on some of the classic Fuzztones albums because Easy Action have done you all a favour and brought out a box set containing a DVD, 7" single and five albums with bonus tracks galore in what has to be one of the finest box sets around and more bang for your bucks than a half priced whorehouse extravaganza in Amsterdam.
With one of the finest names ever in Rock and Roll and a haircut to match squeezed into some of the finest Chelsea boots this side of Brian Jones in his pomp, Rudy Petrudi was born to Rock and Roll and this box set has all the evidence. Compiled by Easy Action head honcho and none other than Rudi Himself this is incredible value for money. ‘Leave Your Mind At Home’, ‘Lysergic Emanations’, ‘In Heat’, ‘Braindrops’, ‘Monster A Go-Go’ spread out over five discs and a 7" single of ‘Live with Screaming Jay Hawkins’, plus the ‘Elixir’ DVD recorded live in Brittany back in ’85; this is amazing stuff and all at a most affordable price.
Remember a time when bands were like a gang from the Warriors and they were shrouded in mystery and looked like they were from another planet and were simply out of reach for us common folk, especially ones from a foreign country? Bands like the Fuzztones and The Cramps were that for me. I gravitated towards bands like the Cramps and the Fuzztones simply because they were unreachable; Rock Stars; dark, dangerous and yet most definitively delicious. A hedonistic gang more dangerous than any biker gang and when you looked at their album covers they epitomised the mystery and romance of Rock and Roll.
The Fuzztones were right out there for album artwork as well and never ever let me down, and seeing them live was a blast. As far as collections go you won’t find much better than this, no more crackling vinyl as albums like ‘Braindrops’ get the deluxe treatment. ‘Try It’ is live in fantastic audio quality and the mid song banter is worth the price alone. ‘My Little Red Book’, ‘Rari’ and ‘Shape Of Things To Come’ aren’t too shabby either. One of the things I notice about this set as well is a lot of reissue collections tend to repeat different versions of songs over and over again a live version, demo, different this and different that, but what Easy Action and Rudi have managed here is keeping that to a minimum and I applaud them for that.
If you’ve never got into The Fuzztones for whatever reason then this surely is the place to start. ‘In Heat’ is rounded off with the ‘Action Speaks Louder Than Words’ single and three B-sides, and I love hearing songs like ‘My Nothing’ sound crisp and clear.
‘Monster A-Go-Go’ is a B-movie classic as it kicks off with ‘Jack The Ripper’ and rolls out its ghoulish track list. I mean what’s not to like about its hammy-garage classics like ‘Dinner With Drac’? What a wheeze, Mwahhahahahah!
‘Lysergic Emanations’ has the classic tracks ‘Ward 81’, ‘Strchnine’ and the single ‘She’s Wicked’. Also as the bonus material on here is four radio sessions with a huge production on ‘Bad News Travels Fast’, ‘She’s Wicked’ which sounds very different from the album and single version and a worthy bonus indeed. To cap off this classic album is ‘Green Slime’ which was a session outtake from the album recording sessions and returned to its rightful place and most welcome it is too.
The live album ‘Leave Your Mind At Home’, or should that be EP, has been expanded to a bulging sixteen tracks with the original seven complete with enthusiastic crowd noises. It’s fair to say this pretty much captures exactly how a Fuzztones live performance should sound. ‘Bad News Travels Fast’ is here in its single format from ’84 complete with B-side. You also get compilation tracks and a bunch of demo recordings that expand this album to a sweet sixteen which in itself is a bonus and something that gives CD a distinct advantage with its running time. Hearing some of the demos is opening a door to a twisted world that mere mortals shouldn’t have access to and I’m fascinated to hear ‘The Witch’ played whilst the band were perfecting their (witch) craft.
Let’s not forget the 7" of live cover material played with Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. ‘Alligator Wine’ has only ever been bettered as a cover when Johnny Thunders took it on but this isn’t too shabby and neither is ‘I Put A Spell On You’
All in all I don’t really think any words I can conjure up will help sell this anymore than a quick glance at the cover and a realisation of what is inside the box. With more coming in the near future on vinyl from Easy Action 2015 looks like being a great year for Fuzztones fans old and new. Buy it!

Well everyone’s jumping on the box set bandwagon but the Fuzzy One (Mr P) has outdone everyone else.
Remastered and with many bonus tracks on the cd’s.
Most of this stuff almost impossible to get on original cd and here it is with extras.
Great booklet and crystal clear sound (the original releases were muddy at best).
Perfect.
Get it whilst you can – whose to say how long this will stay available (I’m betting not long). Apparently Cleopatra are planning a live box set also so hopefully that cd set will include Live In Europe
Note: you’ll need to buy the Screamin’ Jay Hawkins/Fuzztones Live separately as the version provided is ……. vinyl!!!! It doesn’t matter there’s so much greate stuff here already who in their right mind could complain – not me for sure!.

A great little box set. There are 5 cds of original albums, beefed up with contemporary recordings as extra tracks. The sound is as clear and powerful as the music. The dvd shows just what a potent band The Fuzztones were live, too. There is an attractive booklet included, and the whole box-just look at the picture of it-is picture perfect.
Funnily enough, I didn’t actually rate The Fuzztones that highly during their heyday in the 1980s. I came across them, and bought their first two albums, along with a 12" single of Bad News Travels Fast-all included here. At the same time, though, I was hearing the bands on The Pebbles and other compilations of mid-late 60s American rock, and The Fuzztones seemed to me then to be carbon copies, without having an original voice their own. Its not how it sounds now, though. They have an energy level far higher than the 60s bands who inspired them. As it says in the booklet, they pumped it out more in the style of the MC5, than, say, The Seeds. Although the MC5s first album was recorded in 1968, they always seemed to me to be light years ahead of the psychedelic/garage bands who were their peers. Not necessarily better-more like music from the future. Another band I was reminded of, listening to this box, was the original Alice Cooper-particularly how they sound on Love It To Death. Roky Erikson must also be regarded as an influence. They have the balls to cover You’re Gonna Miss Me on the live dvd-and Night of the Vampire is on the Monster A Go-Go cd.
In summary- a really good deal. Plus theres that EP with them backing Screaming Jay Hawkins. Can’t be bad!

Must have for any Fuzztones fan, well packaged boxed set, contains most of their early songs including singles and b-sides and some live tracks which are now hard to find. A bargain especially as it comes with a 1985 DVD live show in France of great quality only available on YouTube and not in its entirety. Also worth having tons of extra tracks on each CD album.
Missing are Creatures that time forgot and Live in Europe but most songs are included here from those albums.
Brand new 7′ from Screaming Jay Hawkins and the Fuzztones live also included.
Even the booklet is full of great pictures and interesting facts on how the band was conceived and how it delevoped over the past 35 years.
