Having started Bookie’s as a punk rock nightclub and running it for two years, my perspective on the place and the goings-on are far from objective. I can tell you that many shows have stuck in people’s minds over the decades and Iggy’s residency at the club was one of the most memorable. The sound quality here is incidental to documenting a moment in time that can never be repeated. Bookie’s became Detroit’s punk/alternative nightclub on March 17, 1978 and it’s fitting that this album should be released so close to that date. You can’t go back in time to be there but you CAN experience the sounds of those nights, thanks to these discs.
