Well chuffed with this, so much better quality than the bootleg box set. Bootiful packaging , card gatefold so much nicer than plastic ! Still wondering who are the mystery girls !

Despite having the exact same track listing, don’t be fooled. This ain’t no glorified Pink Pedal Pushers bootleg. Not to detract from that release as it
was surely the most famous and popular of all the Dolls bootlegs, helping keep their legacy alive. But it also had serious sound quality shortcomings, of which this release helps to rectify.
The My Father’s Place recording from Long Island ,1974, has had all the surface noise removed, with no apparent distortion to the music. The great thing about this recording is that while the Dolls know that they are on the radio, they appear utterly un-self-conscious, as if they really couldn’t give a whiff. As if it were routine, just another gig. But that’s not to detract from the performance – the performance is excellent, one of their best on tape, featuring an extended version of "It’s Too Late". On most Dolls live recordings, rhythm guitarist Sylvain Sylvain is low in the mix and drowned out by Johnny Thunders. But on the My Father’s Place recording he is an equal partner. His meaty, chunky riffs provide the perfect counter balance to Johnny’s jagged, adrenaline rush lead runs.
Up next is the real treat, the Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert from California 1974 off the master, or what sounds like it. I had read that the DK Rock Concert had been released on laser disc many years ago in Japan, which is the likely source of this release. Those relics are notorious for self-destructing after a number of years but apparently one has survived to give testament to the glory of rock n’ roll and the greatness of the New York Dolls. Hallelujah.
