I didn’t want to get my hopes up too high, it having been years since their last release. I was pleasantly surprised, if pleasant is word you can use with Amebix! Heavy, awesome with a few poignant moments. A must for any Amebix fan.

As the title says… what an EXCELLENT album! I’ll keep it very brief being as the review already on here is accurate.
Considering the amount of time since their last release/s, this is truly a remarkable album; it sounds totally up to date and yet retains some original/earlier sounds too.
Obvious to say, but the lyrics/subject matter covered are (as their previous albums) relevant and thought provoking.
As per other review, strange in that it’s somewhat negative (context wise), but it has an uplifting feel to it that will make you want to press the ‘play’ button again and again (or the repeat button!).
Don’t take my word for it, buy the CD now, receive it and ENJOY!

The Amebix are back with a new album, Sonic Mass,the first in over twenty years.
This album starts with a surprisingly gentle tune called Days, the track is a sombre but gentle introduction to the album. Rob Miller sings(no growl on this tune) from then on we have familiar territory pounding tribal drums, grinding guitars pounding bass and the familiar glass gargling vocals, some tracks interspersed with melodic moments.
The production is great, the drums add an extra dimension as Roy Mayorga is one industrial powerhouse of a drummer. The album lyrics are very pagan in content and feel, particularly god of the grain.
To describe the Amebix,they may sound morose, but they have an uplifting feel that is inspiring and positive.
Some people in the Anarcho scene, put people on pedestals and were thus disappointed sooner or later, for those that didin’t, here is Sonic Mass, No Gods No Masters.

I’ve had the ‘Who’s The Enemy’ EP for years and didn’t think much of it so it’s been unplayed and unloved for 20 odd years. I was in an independent music store (Tangled Parrot in Carmarthen – great shop, cool friendly staff) and was talking to the owner about punk/anarcho bands and he recommended this LP and said it was probably the best thing he has heard by them. I looked for it on ebay but it was only on CD but they had ‘Monolith’ on vinyl so I bought that and loved it. Found Sonic Mass on Amazon and loved it even more than Monolith. Having got an appreciation of the band I’ve gone back to the ‘Whos The Enemy’ EP and it’s not as bad as I remember. I’m now questioning my understanding of music haven taken so long to love Amebix……….I hated the Clash for years as well, what a plonker!!

I DON’T KNOW HOW I CAME ACROSS THIS CD IT COULD HAVE BEEN A MUSIC MAG,ANYWAY I TOOK A CHANCE AND WAS’NT DISSAPOINTED.IT’S NOT YOUR STANDARD ROCK ALBUM AND IT’S TAKES SEVERAL LISTENS TO GET IN TO IT BUT WHEN YOU DO IT’S AMAZING.THE BAND SEEM TO HAVE PUT THE ALBUM OUT AS THEY INTENDED,RAW AND IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT WELL TOUGH.I’M NOT GOING THRU ALL THE TRACKS BECAUSE THEY ALL HAVE THAT SOMETHING.GIVE IT A CHANCE!!!!
