Anyway, what it was that came to mind on this the 49th anniversary of the tracks release, was how it in a way came to be.
Remember this was a long time ago, but we all do have flashbacks that often come to the fore in our minds, and this was one of mine.
Marc had left the studio for some reason in the middle of a track that we were rehearsing during a session.
So after some time waiting, I began to play a shuffle to myself with Steve on bass.
Eventually Marc came back and said for us to carry on with the jam. It wasn’t too long before he began writing some words in the studio, in his own inimitable way, and the backing track for SGEA was birthed. Something that I have always remembered, that maybe no one else would.
Like I said it was all a long time ago, but one doesn’t forget certain things that will always remain in the recesses of your mind, even if certain facts and details are lost in the annuals of time.
I will always stand corrected if ever I don’t get the full picture, but at least we get a great song that we’ve enjoyed these past 49 years. Bill Legend
